Is It Time to Install a New Boiler

Whilst all boilers are created unequal, there are a number of universally recognisable signs that your heating system may be on the blink.

The issue is that these signs are only usually obvious to skilled heating engineers, whose training and expertise qualifies them to diagnose potential issues and recommend a viable course of action.

In this post, we’ll look at some of the telltale signs that your boiler is on the verge of a breakdown, whilst asking whether they can be repaired affordably.

1. There are Strange Noises Coming from your Boiler

All boilers make noise, the vast majority of which are fleeting and unlikely to be indicative of anything serious.

However, boilers that produce banging, gurgling and kettling noises on a regular basis may be about to break down, whether there’s an excess of trapped air in the system or the connecting pipework is backed up with sludge.

If your radiators are also cold and remain this way after they’ve been bled, you’ll definitely need to call on an engineer to determine whether the underlying issue can be resolved.

2. The Boiler Keeps Turning off on its Own

This is an obvious issue, and one that usually suggests that your boiler is close to experiencing a breakdown that it may not recover from.

So, if your boiler keeps turning off at random intervals and before it has effectively heated your home or water source, you’ll need to seek out expert guidance as a matter of urgency.

Just be warned; this type of fault may be costly to repair even in the best-case scenario, and it may be more cost-effective to install a new unit.

3. There’s a Strange Smell Near the Boiler

If you find yourself standing next to the boiler and you notice a strange smell emanating from the unit, there are a couple of potentially serious triggers.

The most concerning is a potential gas leak, whilst the system may also be allowing carbon monoxide to seep into the air and put the entire household at risk!

In this instance, you need to seek out urgent care (from an emergency plumber if necessary), and consider replacing the system immediately.
